A lot of people wonder when they are supposed to do Senior Portraits. Honestly, I suggest anytime from Summer following your Junior year through November. It depends on your personality. Do you prefer to have a summer look in your photos or a fall look? There are some who want to get it done as soon as possible to try and beat the rush and not have to worry about getting an appointment. There are also those who will take their chances. There are pros and cons to all of these. Let’s discuss…
Let’s start with the time of year. Truthfully, anytime before your yearbook deadline. Otherwise, you could risk not getting your photo in the yearbook, or having to settle for the dreaded blue background photo (which, let’s be honest, is not the most representative of you).
If you love summer clothes and want to sear shorts, and summer dresses, then let’s schedule your session during the summer. On a side note, I reserve summers for this time of year. I offer more availability since you are out of school and have most of the week to schedule a session. Also, if you like water like the rivers, lakes, and oceans, this is the preferred time of year for that since it is still hot.
If you prefer jeans and sweaters, let’s schedule a fall session. Keep in mind that I do not have as much availability as I book up fast this time of year. Usually on these daily holidays such as Veteran’s Day and Election Day, for example, I may openings. However, on Thanksgiving weekend, I am usually closed.
Another thing to keep in mind is I offer my services to go over your outfit choices with you so your photos are cohesive and match the location you chose for your session. This is usually within a week of your session unless you would like it way before so you can plan and purchase things you may want or need. Be sure to give yourself time for this.
This brings me to my last point of being a planner or a chance taker. If you want Fall photos, book as soon as you know. This way you secure your spot for a later date and you do not have to worry about getting in. If you are a planner, book while you are still a Junior for a Summer session.
No matter which one you choose, you can rest assured that your photos will be great and you will love them.
